Zooey-preview

A while ago a posted some WIPs of a vector of my OC Lazuri. So here she is, finally done.

As you can see her eyes have a different colour now. This shade of blue matches her perfectly and I didn’t want her to be mistaken with some sorry excuse for a vampire :P (Twilight Saga, anyone?). She does not sparkle, even though she’s a pirokinethic. So yeah, I will stick to this colour.

So, here’s the wallpaper featuring Zooey and done entirely in Illustrator. It’s also my little tribute to “Twin Peaks”. How? The quote (and this post’s title) has been taken from it. I must admit that it’s weird series, but I’ve seen both seasons and I love it.

But back to subject, the wallpaper:
1280×800
1440×900
1680×1050
2560×1600
Feel free to use it ;).

I used this wallpaper as my project for Multimedia Software. I hope I pass >_>. My sourse file is a bit messy and has only one layer… mainly because Zooey has been created as a separate file, then grouped and put in the background file.

Well, I’ll see tomorrow ;).

Side note: I’m messing around with this place quite a lot. I keep changing both sidebars, I changed the names of Pages and placed Archives as a separate Page as well.
I guess I’ll keep using 3 coloums themes forever, simply because there’s a lot of stuff there and I really love the way Vi.net looks right now <3.

For some reason WP didn’t publish my 1st comment o__O so let me write it out again.

Good job with the illustration! It’s gorgeous! Blue definitely gave it a nice pop.

And god no Twilight! Please no!!! I must admit that I initially loved it because of Edward. But then he became a possessive harker, and fell out of love just as quickly. And then I realized by the 3rd book that there’s nothing to love in this series to begin with.

Sorry if you like the series. I absolutely despise it. Vampires used to be cool yo! Now they’re just sparkling vegetarians.

I have no idea why, but WP marked your comment as spam o_o.

Anyway, if I liked Twilight I’d keep gold as colour of the eyes, because I wouldn’t mind. But I deffinitely do ;).

I like the idea of this series and I think that if someone else used the ideas (and the love between main characters wouldn’t be based on the fact that one person is hot and second smells good), a good writer perhaps?, and wrote it all over again it might have been a really good one, it has the potential. But unfortunately S. Meyer is not J.K. Rowling (and those two were housewives when they started writing, thus my comparison).

On the other hand there’s always Sookie Stackhouse series or Vampire Diaries :). And some would say there’s also Anne Rice, but I don’t like her books, cool storyline written in very boring way.

Ha! Twin Peaks is also considered as a part of inspiration for SH inventors >>. You’re a real freak ;p Dunno why ;]

I didn’t know you’re able to vector on similar level to Charlie ;) You used your tablet when creating it didn’t you? ;D

Lemme solve your problem anyway: blue eyes rock and you have to leave it the way it is at the moment or else I won’t bother you with lenghty emails anymore ;P

And you really should remember one thing: EVERY…I stress (if there’s still anyone who haven’t noticed the capitalized every before ;P) E V E R Y decent web blog use blue/white colour combo as a main theme …(khem…never-ever-released Doctor Hideos with WP?)…I heard some people tend to add some grey or orange (…never-ever released DH with WP # 2? ;P).

That’s all…for now ;]

Take care Haaaaavaaaaaaa

I chose this theme when weather started acting weird and it was snowing (and it was still October, I guess). Snow was gone the next day so at least I have some of it here ;D.
And well, except for the theme, that would be about it as far as it goes for decent blogs. Yup.

I guess I can vector, but I can’t draw and I want to!!! *sigh*

Wow. Shockingly, Mikey was talking about me.

@Mikey
I don’t even think of myself as a high leveler in vectoring stuff. I feel too lazy with details.

Overall, the image is great. You have your own style, and keep it up. I do think blue actually gives her quite an ironic, yet cool image.

But I think she looks quite stiff? Unless, you were going for a stiff type of style. And the skirt’s pleats doesn’t seem to match, since all the shading are solid colors, and the pleats had a gradient type shading. Besides those two, everything is great.

Did you also create the wooden vector-type texture at the back? Since I’m impressed. Did you use your tablet on this? Mikey did tell me that you have one, even before this post. I’m just about to buy one for myself.

You can’t draw? Seriously? I don’t think anyone who can vector something like this won’t be able to draw.

Haava on November 24, 2009 said:

I’ve been wondering about the pleats as well, but it just didn’t look right with solid colours so I kept gradient.

Yes, I wanted her to look stiff. Stiff and self-concious.
I’m glad you think that blue makes her look ironic, because that’s exactly how she is.
*sigh* I guess you can call her my alter-ego. I really put a lot of my own personality in her (and I didn’t want to, seriously). Just wonder which one of us is more stiff >_>.

Back to subject, I have a tablet: Wacom Intuos3 A3. If you want to buy a tablet Wacom is the only choice ;).
Since I know that you’re good at drawing, I’d recommend the same model I have, unless you can afford Intuos4 or Cintiq 21 (because 12 is just a little bit too small). Bamboo on the other hand would be perfectly ok if you were to stick to vectors only, but it’s not so great when it comes to drawing. Intuos affords pen tilt and more pressure than Bamboo.
And you don’t need such a big one. I got used to my A3, but A4 is just the perfect size. A5 still isn’t too small, but it’s a little less comfortable. I have A5 at work and after few hours my elbow starts hurting.
I rambled more about it here, if you were interested: http://vihainen.net/index.php/2009/01/wacom-presentation/
I hope I helped ;).

As for the texture: yes, I did it myself. The only things I didn’t create in this piece are: lace on top of the dress, bow on the skirt and the font ;).

I guess you will be able to judge wether or not I can draw soon enough ;). All I can say is that me+paper+pencil are not good friends. Though I’m quite happy with my digital sketch even though it’s quite messy.
I guess I’m too ambitious when it comes to drawing, I don’t really have much experience, but I want my creations to be oh so perfect. I know that there are things which would come with time, but I want it now~! (I want it now, give me your heart and your soul, tra la la la la – sorry I see MUSE’s lyrics everywhere o_o).

Hmmm. Alter ego huh? That’s cool. I sometimes create a character with most of my personalities too. I have been in a block lately, couldn’t create stories anymore.

I’m going for Wacom Intuos4 Medium. Since I find the Large too big for me. I’m using my boss’ Wacom currently at my workplace, I dunno what model this is, but it sure is old. It isn’t even Intuos I think.

Hahaha. So you’re the impatient type, huh? You want things instantly. I’m the type of person who finds challenge in things I can’t do yet… I do aim to surpass people, in which I do think speeds up the process on improving. If I surpass one person already, I’ll aim for another one. Hahaha.

BTW, you haven’t replied to my email, regarding your thesis. Hahaha. I don’t really know why, but I can’t get my mind off thesis, whether it be mine or other people’s. I’m even currently a technical consultant for a thesis. Wahahaha. Maybe the reason is I’m still not up to take a Masteral Degree, that’s why I bend my attention to other people =p. Weird, huh?

I’m very patient, I will keep working on things as long as I’m not fully happy with the result. But it slows me down…

I didn’t reply to your email mainly because I’m working on a subject change… I must talk to my boss wether or not I’d be able to write like 40+ pages about Multimedia in Fashion or something like that. I don’t think I’d be able to create application for thesis, even though I’ll deffinitelt try to learn Ruby.

Charlotte on November 27, 2009 said:

Hehe. I do think it’s normal that challenges slows you down. As long as your happy all the way, right? Hehehe. I usually don’t sense time at all when encountering a difficulty while enjoying at the same time.

Hmmm. What is your course by the way? So your thesis isn’t requiring you to create an application? I thought it was like at my school (course to be exact), that the application was the thesis itself, and the document part only supports it.

Haava on November 30, 2009 said:

The main part of our thesis is supposed to be written. The app only supports it ;).

My course is Informatics & Econometrics and speciality: Multimedia & CG.
